I'm not quite a fan of those Japanese weapons stuff but gave it a try anyway.

it's 170cm (67 inch) overall.

enjoy ;p

I would rate every one of your models 9.5/10, if it wasn't for this one.

It sure as hell is awesome, but something just looks weird, I guess it's the guard's reflection or something. It's real awesome though, so 8.7/10
Looks good. Functionally, there's a few things that bug me. :P

1. The serrated bit would seriously detract from the usage of the sword, as katanas were designed for slashing, rather than a "sawing" that a serrated section would probably merit. By that I mean that unless you were cutting at a ridiculous speed, the serrations would likely become caught in your opponent, completely screwing up the cut.

2. The thingy on the back is unrealistic and nonfunctional, but I'm sure you're aware of that. ;)

3. Is the back of the blade sharpened? It almost looks to be, from the second image. O_o

4. For a bit more accuracy, you'd want the wavy pattern on the blade which is created by the method of forging a katana. (hamon)

1. yeh but a over 130cm long blade with out anythign special looks boring to me ;) The sawtooth are only for optical reasons ;P
But actualy only the top 1/3 of the blade is the effective area (at least that coutns for straight medival swords, no clue abbout katanas). So if you attack with that long blade the sawtooth should not be touching the enemy anyway.

2. Same as 1. Only optical reasons.

3. Noep, I thought abbout it, but then it wouldn't have been even close to a katana anymore. Seems the shadow on the groudn causes that illusion :P

4. I tried to simulate that without the need of creating textures first but were not able to :/

And on your pic i see that over 70% of the baldes width are sharpened.
I should keep that in mind for the next time ;P

OMG! that's amazing! At first I was like "yeah, big deal, someone's snapped a photo of their sword and put a grainy stone backround behind it", but then I got it that you've actually made it look that real. Great job at it, man!
I refuse to grab.
