Yes, that's what I meant. A true RPG should have a wide variety of skill points, and a map size with lots of content not just a single city. I do find the new, more fast paced action more interesting and enjoyable, but I dislike the fact that they are changing the core of what is an RPG to better suit the audience.

same is happening in DA2, i stopped playing the first one because it was too difficult(ive never been good at those kind of games)
i thought the storyline and graphics were top notch, but i got stuck and bored of dying...
I don't think there ever is too much emphasis on the storyline, especially in an RPG. ME2, because it was more fast paced, didn't have as many highlighted moments of the storyline which is unfortunate.
Why didn't you play on the easy difficulty? You're missing out on one of the best rpgs.

While the Dragon Age: Origins download was 8 gigabyte without any updates; Dragon Age II is a 5 gigabyte download, it made me sad to see that they did not make the game more open.
Size doesn't matter that much, but the general audience thinks so. You have no idea how many programs repeat a useless code just to make it take up more space on the HDD because people prefer a 1 giga program to do simple math than an 25kb one ( I exagerated on purpose here).
