That's because people don't understand what they are saying, or can't understand basic logic.
The two most common failures people make are;
A. Not having basic language skills. Words have specific meanings and connotations, as well as emotional attachments. Calling someone a terrorist has a specific meaning, but one must be aware that it also carries emotional attachments - anyone who thinks of terrorist will automatically think of the US, the middle east, Muslims, bombs, etc. It may not be appropriate to call someone a terrorist, even if they fit the technical definition. In case you are wondering, emotional bias is the primary reason that words change definitions with time - it's why words are marked as 'swear' or 'cuss' words, and it's why people have such a reaction to 'swag'.
B. Not thinking it through. People often say something without thinking of the implications or logical extensions. Often they commit multiple logical fallacies. There are few people on this board who are actually aware of how they draw conclusions. Being able to consciously think allows you to assess your thought process. I'm sure you've seen the classic pictures where someone says one thing, and another person replies "Implying that XXX", only to have the first person get mad and say "I never said that!".
