Yet I still ask myself what's the point in ranks in the first place? It's false achievement in my eyes, just moral hope. Nothing to really worry about or feel big about either. I guess it's one of the reasons I felt good about what I did when I once had a clan, and it rubbed off on everyone in it.

The point in ranks? (Fake) Control over people, possibility of telling someone off without risk of getting in trouble for doing so. The only useful ranks are Leader/Co-Leader and optionally somebody who can invite new members to the clan in case the Leader can't.

Yes but then we're back to the choice thing, and you choose how you wish to act in that line of "power", no one has to become a dictator just because their job requires them to dictate over others, no. I was just myself, I helped people more than anything -post something on the wrong thread "no worries" and then I would point out the right one to them, people are people show them the respect they deserve for whatever they do in life, and that does not imply become a pushover, treat people how you wish to be treated.
