Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Jeffrey Dunn, John Petrucci, Jason Becker, Yngwie Malmsteen, can name them off the top of my head.
Zakk Wylde is not as great as good 'ol Randy, and not as impressive, in my opinion.
I'm not a great fan of most metal guitarists, since the vast majority seem to substitute music with any sort of feeling or inspiration with speed and distortion. The guy from Sonata Arctica is VERY good, though, as is Buckethead, imo.
Well yeah, Randy Rhoads was better, that's true... Just named Zakk Wylde because he is still alive, kek. And he makes those nasty wah sound s or however they're called :o
No, I don't mean that Zakk is a bad guitar player.
A lot of metal has a lot of feeling. It has as much feeling as any other music out there.
I thought someone would say Chuck Shuldiner already. That guy is a genius. All of his albums are great. Also I think Zakk makes any Osbourne song kind of annoying to listen to with hius overuse of the pinched harmonics which he does them high all the time. They don't have to be high.
yep. pinch harmonics will always be high, i'm afraid.
As for the feeling thing - yes, there is a lot of very well composed and well played music that fits into the genre. However vast amounts of death/grind/power/thrash have killed a big part of metal for me. I'd say that metal is one, if not the worst sufferer of speed over quality.
For me, any metal guitarist who knows when to play slow, when to play fast, and how to play with soul is impressive for me. Most shredders do not fall into this category =(
Dave Mustaine
Also Zakk does have annoying harmonics. In places where I wouldn't like 'em.
Also there are deeper pinched harmonics or artificial harmonics it just depends how you do them with your picking hand and where you do it above the pick ups.
