HTOTM: FUSION
1- Duane Allman- completely revolutionized Southern rock and slide guitar.
2- Cormac McCarthy- the best writer of our time, and completely redefined the Western genre with All The Pretty Horses and Blood Meridian.
3- Benito Mussolini- founder of fascism, probably the best political ideology of all time.

Those are my greatest.

Because if he didn't exist, then we wouldn't have these delightful Beethoven movies, and Charles Grodin would never have a career, well he doesn't have one right now so, nothing much would change.

Oh, except the world of music would be altered, and we would probably be playing instruments on our toes, pianos will only be played by uncircumcised people, and violins will be made out of Amish children.

So actually quite a lot would change, but don't tell Beethoven that, he's already got a big ego, and he's deaf, and he's not alive.

I'm glad we had this talk.
Frank Lloyd Wright:
completly l00ny, but also completly brilliant. controlled every detail of house construction to the extent of designing chairs, tables, cutlery and organising the arrangment of furniture.
his designs are so practicle yet look amazing
did i mention i think hes completly l00ny?

Next time try to make a real argument, instead of just collecting as much big figures as possible to make yourself look sophisticated and an appreciator of the "fine arts"

I'm glad we had this talk.

Apparently you couldn't understand my post was joke.

I am not trying to make myself look sophisticated and an appreciator of fine art, I wanted to know who this community finds great, I enjoy Stephen King's books because they are a good read, I enjoy Beethoven's symphonies because to me they are beautiful timeless melodies. It is my opinion, I find him great, I made that post because I thought it would a light joke, never thought someone would take it seriously.

I don't have to prove why I think he's great, I did in the first post out of boredom, so far I only saw 3 people in this thread actually point out why the find the person great , this isn't a debate, it's just a simple discussion.

To answer your question, "Why is he a great man in your eyes?" because simply, I enjoy his music, he's loss of hearing did not prevent his composing music, he kept going, and I admire that in any person.

And why would I want to look sophisticated? I piss in the sink, I have dandruff, I play soccer barefoot, I'm far from sophisticated, I just enjoy his music.

And I didn't answer that question with seriousness the first time because I thought people who would read this thread would be smart enough to know what I'm talking about.

I honestly, I don't care why you think someone is great or an incredible person, I don't care if you want to write why you think he is great. You think he deserves respect? Fine. You think a man uniting several regions under his command and becoming a mass-murder is a person well worth to be known. Go ahead. Why should I stop you from thinking whatever you want to think?

Apparently a simple joke can't be tolerated in here.
Salvador Dalí (aka Dalí Dalí)

Saw a showcase of his work at the modern museum in stockholm. He's the first artist to catch my interest, simply because of his moustasche and how he created an image for himself by being controversial, and he started many trends celebrities have today. Simply, he was cool because he was first. He painted surrealism, and alot of his childhood etc influenced his art to make it interesting enough to look at/decipher.

He was also batshit insane.

For almost 8 years now Paul gilbert has been my hero. I love playing guitar alot and im hoping to get out of graphic design to play music.

In 2007 I had the honor to "Jam" with paul in a VIP backstage tour. I got to touch his guitar and play it a little bit, he then showed my ass up and played "Curse of castle dragon" on his 7 string guitar. I almost cried. If you do not know who he is then be prepared to get blown away.

Very few guitarists really earn the tag of "great" imo. People get too easily blown away by speed and forget what music is about. The guy is talented, but he's not doing anything that hasn't been done before a thousand times. Putting him in the same league as Beethoven, Chopin, Hendrix etc would be a bit ridiculous i think.
