adding 3 to infinity does not make infinity larger. infinity is a non-finite number.

Bleh. By the same logic, just with less beating about the bush to throw people off:

infinity + 3 = infinity
infinity + 1 = infinity
1 = 3

Infinity is bullshit

He makes a good point.

actually, he doesnt. You cannot prove anything when using infinity as part of the equation.
I am not doing that... I am using a number which has an infinite number of decimal digits. Pi is a number which has an infinite number of decimal digits. You cannot write down an accurate value of Pi on a piece of paper. You can write down a formula to work it out, but you cannot write down Pi itself.

What i am saying is, i can multiply a number with an infinite number of digits by any non-zero number, and the new value will still have an infinite number of digits.

I'll post a little exerpt from the IRC to enlighten you as to my views on infinity...

[17:10:59] <Tonjevic> indeed
[17:11:20] <@slainvet|ill> ok, lets set a variable, c = 0.999...
[17:11:42] <@slainvet|ill> so, 10c = 9.999... correct?
[17:11:47] <Tonjevic> ya
[17:04:43] <Cevius[Lurk]> you only need three of them to make up 1 again
[17:04:54] <Tonjevic> therefore, 0.3333... * 3 = 0.9999...
[17:05:03] <@slainvet|ill> yes.
[17:05:04] <Cevius[Lurk]> with 0.333... it is not one third
[17:12:11] <@slainvet|ill> ok, 10c - c = 9.999... - 0.9999.... yes?
[17:12:39] <Tonjevic> :|
[17:12:41] <Tonjevic> noes!
[17:12:48] <Tonjevic> it can't be right!
[17:12:51] <@slainvet|ill> how is that wrong?
[17:12:53] * Tonjevic tears his own face off
[17:13:27] <@slainvet|ill> 0.999... = 1

Ok. Maybe not so little. So ban me.

Tonjevic, I got you to work it out. It is true. Why else would you tear your face off?

Because it's fun?

<suomynona> It might kill you, but, that's the worst it'll do
Re: How good is you math? 0.999... = 1
10 x 0.999... = 9.999...

c = 0.999...

10c = 9.999...

10c - c = 9.999... - 0.999...

9c = 9

c = 1
---------------------------
This is what i did after those steps
d = 1

c = d

10d = 9.999...

10d-d = 9.999...-d

10d-d=9.9999...-1

9d=8.999...

9c=8.999....

c=8.999.../9 therefore c does not equal 1
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another way of doing it

c=.999...
10 x .999...=9.999...
10 x c=9.999...
c=.999

Re: How good is you math? 0.999... = 1
Allow me to reiterate.

0.999... = c

That is correct, right?

10 * c = 9.999...
So, 10c = 9.999...

Correct?

10c - c = 9c
9c = 9

The math is undeniable. It's the logic that I don't get.

<Clbck> 9c. Hence, slain is correct
<Clbck> I Will attribute that to an error in our mathematical system, though.
