So far it hasnt even felt much like an el nino, last year more so. This year is turning out to be a decent year for cold.

this year has been milder so far in terms of snowfall, atleast up here in toronto.
depends on where you live. You can't just say, this year is cold, either. you have to compare it to previous years.
I love you
It's well deserved because there is nothing Canadian about these Olympics. Guess who we are sponsored by? Fucking Coke! Our mascots are a joke, they've released so many hyped up commercials of "Believe", but what happens if we don't win? Jack shit and deep in debt as I'm sure Montreal just recovered from or recovering from the Summer Olympics of 1976. I'm also just saying that it will and is going to be ironic after February.

Already they've spent money on a back-up plan that should counter El Nino and that is Snow Machines. I don't know how much they cost, but they will be placed Cypress Mountain, Whistler, and Grouse Mountain I presume.

As far as weather, It was colder at the beginning of December and it only snowed once in Vancouver. The rest were rain storms, rainy weeks and above all that it was actually quite warm the whole time, but we'll see what happens within the next month.

Ugh, this thread has made me facepalm in so many ways.

Here's the tl;dr from someone WHO ACTUALLY LIVES IN VANCOUVER.

The major events are all in either indoor stadiums or on the local mountains. Whistler has mounds upon mounds of snow, and already has enough snow machines to fill up three bathtubs full of powder every second. It's still damned cold outside on most nights and we get 6 hours of sunlight a day. And the link that you're so concerned about was written in July.

We only get snow on ground level maybe three or four times a decade.

I don't see how you can call the Olympics overhyped. It's been around for a hundred years (not counting the ancient greeks) and basically every country in the world with athletes to display participates in it. That's like saying Jesus was overhyped because most of the western world has heard of him.

...Actually, I'm too stupified at how little T0ribush actually knows about this town and this country to even continue. If you want me to continue about how you're absolutely wrong, find me on IRC. Please tell me this isn't the kind of crap you learn from your teachers at school.

Good job using logic, buddy.

Hyping it isn't a problem, but when everything, like I mean everything revolves around the fucking Olympics though it's only going to last a couple of weeks and then we are left with debt, a dirty ass city, inflated prices that will remain so until the store owners recover from the massive money loss and taxes, that is over-hyping.

You only said stuff about Whistler, why? There is Cypress Mountain as well. Which is closer to where warm winds are going to hit.

Jesus isn't over-hyped he's just more renown and you don't see commercials of the Jesus Christ saving people and at the end of it saying "believe" or "A little Blind Faith didn't kill anyone" or something as dumb as that.

You think it's cold at night? Really? We might have different temperature tolerances. Or you only think it's cold because the news tells you so, but whatever I don't think it's cold one bit.

My point of view is this.

Remember the World's Fair here in 1986? You don't, because you weren't born yet. I don't either, I was five months old. The same thing they did then, they're doing with the Olympics. Ever heard of the SkyTrain? Maybe BC Place? If it wasn't for the expo, none of this stuff would exist.

Do I support the Olympics directly, no. The mascots are idiotic and some of the resources are being put in the wrong places, like the skating rink in Richmond. But I like how for once in my life my tax money's getting spent on something useful, instead of funding the useless shit that Gordon Campbell wants in his office. The old Sea to Sky was a deathtrap. It's getting redone. Two new bridges are up in Pitt Meadows, one of which cuts the travel time from Langley to anywhere east from 45+ minutes to 8 minutes. See where I'm going? These public projects are going to make my life easier in the next 5 years, and I'm sure the construction workers who have their jobs back after a three year recession won't be complaining.

How is it going to be a dirty-ass city when this is all over? Have you ever seen a place like Seattle, Los Angeles? They're nice cities (well, maybe not LA) but they're knee-high in trash compared to here.

All Cypress is hosting is the freestyle skiing and snowboard events, so it's not a huge concern if one of 'em has to be moved to Whistler or another mountain like Big White. Also, your article was a guess about the weather patterns, it was written in July. There's no warm winds yet, if any. Do the research.

lol'd at "the news told you it was cold". Not laughing with you, but at you.
