Get an Imac g5 or whatevers new.
Get bootcamp on it.
That way you will have the extreme pwnage of mac and the popularness of PC.
You can get any program also.
Just make sure to upgrade from the standard video card.

The fact that Pcs take up 90% of the computer market, it would only make sense that you would get the results that you obviously have.
In my opinion, I like macs much more. Had them all my life. I have loads of games and awesome apps. The thing is, if there is a certain app you like on PC, you could most likely find something relatively close to it for a Mac. I'm not saying that about that for games, but most likely for apps. I have found very many private developed mac games and PCs. Example? Toribash. (Which is developed on a mac.)
If a good system with loads of space that can handle many things and and have a wide variety of private and big name applications, that also is probably better for art designing and developing, you could get a mac.
If you want the largest variety of games, you might want a PC.
Also, you might not be able to get a great mac with only $1000.

Edit: I'd also like to add you can run windows on macs now. Best of both worlds.

I use an iMac, dual core.
I use windows a lot actually.
iMac has a decent graphics card.
Or you could get the mac pro, eight core, total awesomeness. *drooling*
