HTOTM: FUSION
A kid that obviously doesn't want to go to school won't be upset about not having to go to school.

The punishment makes no sense.
When we get suspended, we have a place we go to that we do our work in by talking to our teachers through a school loaned computer.
Get such a harsh punishment by simply laugh it's a bit pathetic. Maybe the teacher was trying to make his power prevail or something like that.
Sometimes i laugh during a test and i never got a punishment from it. I think that the teacher was just trying to show his power by giving a stupid punishment to something that wasn't worth it.
Punishments like that should be given to something worse like painting the school or getting in a fight, but i've seen kids happy by missing 3 days of school. Because of that my school has implemented another punishment: Cleaning the school yard for 3 months.
Is your rule system based off of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible?"

If the teacher is trying to be funny, will you go to detention for laughing with him or not?

School is getting closer and closer to dictatorship.
Instead of stopping the person from learning for breaking the rules, they should just beat them with a stick. They would not miss a day because of suspension, AND they won't do it again.

Do you realize that these are unexcused absences? Any assignment, test, etcetera will not be graded. If you have a 250 point assignment due, and you get suspended, you're screwed.

I agree, the premis for how school rules should are carried out and enforced is extremely astringent. A stressful learning environment isn't a healthy one, especially when that stress is coming from mistreatment of you or your peers. Studies show that people are able to recall information better in a relaxed/comical environment than in a stressful/serious environment.

If there's one thing that I learned by living in America is that the educational system is not about education. Punishments include sitting in one or two hours after school without being given any assignments, having your name written in the system for idiotic yet repetitive things, and then staying home for stuff that sometimes doesn't even directly relate to school. What American education IS about is grades, if you forbid a student from getting grades then you are forbidding your student from getting education in America, which completely contradicts the purpose of an actual school. Then they question why the world thinks they are mindless assholes.
