If your going to build your own Laptop/Desktop, I use Tiger Direct and Nicx. Those are the only places I know of, great deals sometimes too.

I will probably end up saving up for an Alien Ware laptop.

As what was said. I built my own desktop for $800. And i saw an Alienware desktop for $1500. My desktop beat it in everything, except the Alienware desktop had a 0.3GHz faster processor. For $700 cheaper, I don't think you can beat that.

In my country, computer prices are really low. You can get a hella' powerful desktop PC for 300$.

But for laptops, 300$ is a start range and ending to 1000$. I suggest getting a netbook and doing gaming on the desktop you already have in your house.
Check the sticky if you are going to build your own desktop PC, $300 won't give you god mode, but you can certainly play some games on it.

Also, have you considered just getting an Xbox or PS3 instead? You can game on that and use your family's PC for homework or such.
Using a console instead of a PC? Are you crazy? Anyways, I would build a custom computer, for $700 or less. I would aim for Nvidia graphics card, or an ATI Radeon graphics card. Both are quite amazing in quality and speed.
That guy named Poppo
You know, the leader of Fyre.

that depends on what graphics card you choose to get, anymore the starting point for playing games on an average of medium settings is a gtx 550 ti or a hd 6770 is basically the starting point. those cards are cheap as well.

as for the rest of the parts, a good athlon II quad core and 4gb of ram with a decent motherboard is the way to go. you can get a 320gb hdd pretty cheap anymore also. i would set a 450w psu minimum in case you want to upgrade your videocard later.
You don't say?
I don't think laptops are that good for games.
But if you want a great laptop for games that has a lfietime, you need to put that 1000$ down the table.

A PS3 is around $500 and is more powerful than any computer you could buy for the same price.

Sony makes a loss on each one sold just so they can create market penetration for their BluRay tech.

For people with less money I will always recommend a console, especially for casuals.
