I think you're missing the point. According to this post of yours, you apparently believe that pure gradient items are normally displayed as a default color. If the pure gradient had its proper functionality as a color, we'd actually see the difference between it and default. Therefore, once this is fixed, pure gradient items will have a reason for existing.
