Essentially.
You get dealt two cards face down, and so do your opponents. After a round of betting on your two "whole" cards three cards are dealt face up on the board, those are called community cards. Everyone can use them to help their own hand. Then, after another round of betting, 1 more community card gets dealt face up. One more round of betting before the last card is dealt face up.
Then another round of betting then the final competitors show their cards then the person with the best hand wins.
People say poker is all about luck. It's not. I would say it is 1/5 luck, if you get lucky but you don't know how to play your cards you will just pick up the antes.
