From a report I read, over 1000 people received minor injuries as a result of this, mostly from busted glass. Only 3 people in serious condition, though.

I wonder what was going through the average Russian's mind at that moment...

"Oh shit! Are we being nuked?!" is what I would have thought. Never mind the fact that I have no idea what a nuke in flight looks like or whether it actually would be that bright and easy to see in the sky.
