Textures mods
Hello,

I would like to talk about something : Textures for environments.

I think Toribash could manage at least 4-5 different 128*128 textures that we could put on objects created on mods. Concrete, grass, bricks, etc. I think there are a lot of artists in the Toribash community who would like to do them.

We could have an option to chose if we want to display them or not ingame.

By putting these textures in a Toribash folder we could easily change them to make variations.

I think this is an easy to do idea and could make the general looking better.

You won't BELIEVE how many body organs I'd sell for a textured skybox.

Just one... the left kidney.

point still stands. You don't need that big of a skybox map, a 512x512 will do. If its a spherical map like the joints... probably bigger, but not that much

OFC this is on the assumption that the world size isn't much bigger than 512x512

If it is maybe 4096x4096 wouldn't even be big enough

This seems like a very good idea and if used correctly then i'm sure it would make mods look a lot better, the only kinda negative thing that i could see with this idea is downloading mods, would there need to be like a separate file to store all of the texture that you have used within the mod? or would it just be inside the mod code? I'm not very experience with making mods so i am not definite but i'm pretty sure that you would need to have a separate file for the mod textures and if you are using a lot of texture for one mod then it might become a bit of a hassle when trying to download mods but not much of a major issue. Despite that i would still like to see this implemented, however thinking about it again textured mods in toribash might look kinda weird, it just wont really suit toribash if you get what i mean. To be honest i'm not sure if this is something i would or wouldn't like to see implemented.

I think the easiest point is making a folder with textures. Each textures have a number that mod makers could call in the mod editor.

It could be done if the mod and its textures were in .zip file, the same way resource packs work in Minecraft.

toribash files are around 600kb, If you know anything about computers thats really small.

I think it could still be a .tbm without the use of folders.
it would be easier if you could create a folder with the name of the mod, put the regular mod file in the folder and then drop the textures in there which could be .tga. but notch would have to change the way mod files work.

Implementing image files into the .tbm file would cause random stuff to happen.
I suggest some default ones (like 20)for now, It would fix problem with storage of textures.

Isn't this just like shaders? It would be cool to have a multiplayer system like that, but it would be quite annoying.
