Since you seem to think that piloting is the easiest thing on the planet, here's a wikipedia article explaining spatial disorientation and how losing sight of the horizon during night flying is the easiest way for a non-commercial pilot to become disorientated, since the vast majority of non-commercial pilots are not trained to fly aircraft using only instruments, which is what you have to do when you lose sight of the horizon.
