To protect passwords, you could just force user's password to be like 6-9 symbols min in lenght and have both letters and numbers in it. Would be a lot better than changing it again and again. I agree with Fates that its easier now to forget a new password after you changed it 10 times already.

Fates is right, an email requirement would substantially decrease the number of alts being created, and possibly an 'alt purge' to follow it, to open up many of the accounts, that have just been sat waiting theres as alts, with names etc. that people would like/are un-used.

(And seven years seems like an excessively long time to wait, maybe shorten this slightly)

Well I'm pretty sure it's now obvious that before we start systematically killing inactive accounts to free usernames we need a proper way of preventing alts' creation. There are ideas how to fix that apart from forcing everyone to confirm their email, hopefully some of them would be implemented some time soon.


As for now - no, we're not going to give out and/or delete old accounts.
