As other people say, it ca allow you to judge a person's preferences, or their skill at a certain program, but i know first hadn it doesn't show their 'true colours'.

I find that depending on the avatar, it might influence people on thinking who you are or what your opinions are of others.

Example: one of those avatars with seizure capabilities won't necessarily get you a lot of respect.
