Here's what I did with your picture Steve.

A more accurate skecth would help, this sketch looks like it is in early development so an Sketch + Early Development means it shouldnt even be posted in the first place.

Work on your line work, the rough lines show that you can't handle a pencil correctly practice with your art teacher, (It will hurt , my hands are still shaking from my practice) it will give a better , more crisp result to your art, and even make it easier to make and finish a product.

I never use reference pics, but I think you may have used one on this, due to that it more work, observance of details, and more distinct, diverse, and creative shapes would help on this.
