I understand all the points: your points and MS's points.
From what I remember, people said that PS4 wouldn't accept used games. Yes it does. I knew it was Xbox fanboys spreading shit. Or even Microsoft's employees. I believe in everything.
MS wanted to maximize the costs. I'm not sure but I think Xbox One will need an internet connection right? Think with me. In countries where the government put 400% of taxes on games(no, I'm not joking. This is the truth), the piracy is the best way of buying games. PS3 has just got crushed by Xbox 360 here. Guess why. Xbox 360 uses DVDs. Same disc from PS2, the most modified console ever in Brazil(we have 16, 32 MB and maybe 1 GB memory cards). When MS came with the Live Ban, shit changed. Now, Xbox is more expensive, games are more expensive and it loses against the PS3. MS wants to block any kind of piracy, so the developers can get more Money and buy their development kits.
Another thing is the profiting world of HD remakes. As pusga said, some versions of PS3 Slim and all the versions of PS3 Super Slim don't have backward compatibility. This has been done because PS3 Super Slim and Slim aim the low price. PS3 needed not only it's CELL Processor but an EmotionEngine and the graphic card from PS2! Now HD remakes are a way of getting more money. I mean, you bought the game, and you need to buy it again! Hadn't you stopped to think about this? I don't know, and plz tell me if PS4 has backward compatibility, but one thing is for sure: this is VEEEEERY useful for getting profit.
Third stuff: Used games. In Brazil, we have a website for trading games. People here work hard for paying their taxes n' shit for SAVING MONEY so you can buy a game 2 MONTHS LATER! Trading games with friends or stores is a very good way of getting rid of something that you had already beaten. Now, imagine how much money are the developers losing thanks to trading. Lots of. But they can't imagine how much money are they going to lose in the future with this stuff. On PS3 and Xbox 360, you can get your friend's game for checking out and deciding if you want to buy! And now you are saying "hey, that's why demos are for". I say "fuck the demos. They doesn't show for real how the game IS. Furthermore, they are very limited".
For me, consoles are losing a nice thing. My dad and I came to this conclusion. There is no local multiplayer anymore because they FORCE you to buy another game just for playing with your friends. Where's the split screen at Need For Speed? Where's the local co-op at some shooters? We have bigger screens than we had on the PS2 era, but we cannot use them for split screen? That's bullshit. That's why I think the only console which maintains on it's core the difference between a PC and a console is Wii U. For sure, this console has a damn good local interactivity. This should be the vital objective of consoles: the REAL interactivity, not the VIRTUAL one. Nevertheless, this feature has been disappearing.
