I only have about 500GB filled and that's backed up on a separate partition. It's so that I have free space(which actually speeds your computer up having more free space)

In other words if I had a 500GB drive and it was full my computer would crap out all of the time and if it was 500GB on a 1TB drive it would be faster and 2TB even faster.
