Well, from my experience, letting go helps you spin faster. If you hold on to Uke, both Uke and you move closer together, more power but less spin cos half of the spin's momentum goes onto Uke. Letting go would allow you to spin faster but usually less powerful hit.
I loved the split shook, but there was kind of a pause after that split which kinda makes it flow less, but it would have been near impossible to make a decap that flows from that awkward position so good job on a relatively stylish decap.
