The idea is that if health care is no longer part of the free market, than drug companies and hospitals will no longer look to develop new cures/technologies, without the profit motive, the fear is that they will refuse to take any risks in developing or trying something new.

It is a rational enough argument, but also one that doesn't take into account that if more people were getting the treatment they needed, the drug companies would only stand to profit, or at least be in no danger, and would probably be given government incentives.

With the current system, there is no incentive to make cures, only treatments. You can sell someone a treatment for their entire life, but a cure only once.
