Secret Santa 2024
Here's my POV on burqas:

You put it on
Go to the store
Rob them
Get away
Nobody knows who you are

Now, I know that not everyone will do this. Probably nobody. But, it's extremely easy.

The least they could do is ban them while the person is driving. Those things must cut off a lot of the wearer's peripheral vision.

Also: Just because you're religion says you need to do it doesn't mean the country has to let you. That's not even the case in America.

If said "Religious requirement" is deemed as a safety hazard to others, the government has full right to end it in public areas. Private areas are iffy, so they normally allow it there if it's not too bad.

Also, if the requirement poses a danger to the general peace, it can be banned. Such with burqas.

In the past decade, the islamic reigion has gotten a bad reputation because of organizations of extremists such as Al-Queda. The burqa is also a well-known symbol of islam. So, if someone sees another person wearing a burqa, and their brother was killed in Iraq by muslim extremists, don't you think they would take their anger/sorrow/whatever out on the nearest muslim?
i liek turtelz xd
So, I feel we have established that it can be a threat. The question is whether it's enough of a threat to ban in public places.
To me - yes.

In certain places, yes; i.e, the airport, the workplace.

However, if it's a trip to the mall or grocery store, it remains a matter of choice.

That has got to be the most ridiculous reasoning I've ever heard. What the fuck does a criminal planning a fucking bank heist care if his face-concealing burqa is illegal. He has a gun with no license in his pocket, as do his friends. Limitations like that do not matter to a criminal intending to knock off a bank. Even if it was outlawed, and you saw a woman walking into a bank with one on you wouldn't think much of it. "It's against the law, she must have just transferred here."

By restricting clothing you only hold back the law-abiding citizens. This is the dumbest shit I've heard in quite some time.

No, only when they completely conceal someones identity in public.
Reveal your real full name and living address here on the internet. It's a security issue, so we have to know.

No bans. If anything, they can be asked to wait outside until they can be checked for weapons. They're still people. Banning burqas is the sissy way out, and definitely will cause more problems. [people carrying concealed weapons] is very small subset of [people wearing burqas]. Also, the subset is also contained in other sets. Banning one set that contains it will not remove the subset. Causes, not symptoms.
Fnugget: I can't directly harm anyone on the Internet, so anonymity here is ok.

At least a man with stocking on his head would immediately be recognized as a threat anywhere, and wouldn't have a luxury of conspicuousness.
Public appearances where you interact with actual people should not be anonymous, it's not the internet.

Good point regarding the bank robber though.
