Art's too subjective to be 'classified' these days. I could shit on the floor & call it art, hell I could put it in an exhibition and people would pay to see it.
Me & my floor shit would be famous.

Tracey Emin's a fine example of such things

A bed with authentic jizz stains etc, and it is classed as art.

because he doesn't have connections to the art world that would spread it as a 'masterpiece'
also theres this thing called dignity, or pride in ones work.
Don't get me wrong lots of abstract or experimental art is really cool, but dabandito your argument in defending it is pretty narrow minded.

it doesnt have to be famous to become a masterpiece.if u think so that that object u made is a masterpiece..then thats a masterpiece.i can talk about dance cause thats what im doing. i study butoh dance at the uni, and for example when i have to raise my hand in 10-20 mins, from outside is boring as hell. but its ART..so it really cant be classified these days, as skulfuk said
LoL

When dealing with more modern art, and the more outlandish examples, the value almost always has to be explained. Like yes, that is just a bed, or it is a sculpture that perfectly captures a very intimate part of many people lives pretty clearly. Like someone said earlier, anyone can "do modern art" but not everyone does, in large part because they don't think to until they see it. Should it all sell for ass high prices? Eh, maybe, but that sort of makes it souless imho.

Art is any creation that was created with the intent to inspire emotion in the viewer/listener/etc.

So yes, in my opinion almost anything could be art.
Everything and thus nothing is art.

Look at me, being a pretentious douchebag isn't hard and the art-scene is as corrupt and broken as any other scene. I draw something on a sock, ejaculate in it, put it on a table. It's a disgusting cum-rag. I put that shit out on an exhibition: it's art - and not only that, it's a statement aimed towards society and organized religion. The world at large, really.

The reason abstract art can take someone so far away from the original concept it was made for in the first place, is because abstract art can be anything you want it to be.
BAD LUCK
I go with the "Art is whatever the viewer defines to be art" definition. However, that doesn't mean that I respect all "artists" equally. There is good art and there is bad art. It's defining those that presents issues.
