Also,Playaj: what VM are you using? i've been looking for one today, and i can't decide which one to try out ;o

toritori9, you failed.

Vista works fine for me, i have never had any problems with it. And its kinda a nessecity on an machine with 8gb of ram.
Vista is faster, more effective, pretty and more powerful then XP. Those who hate Vista are mainly just those who heard about the bugs when it first came out, and are just holding onto hatrede that they dont really understand.

To sum up, faster, no problems. If ur trying to run it on a shit computer, then i see where the issue lies...

and wtf, since when was vista 40 gig?

You should see me try to do something more advanced than watching pr0nz with my (Vista equipped) laptop. Hell, even watching the IRC logs while I'm attempting to install, verify and run some third party software should be pretty amusing for some of you.

Luckily, I have something to compare with, so I can say with absolute certainity that I'd choose XP over Vista any day. It's not like I'm attached to XP or something, it's just that with XP, I can run basically everything. (Vista-exclusive programs too, with a wee bit of modification.) Vista can run most things that it recognizes, and if it doesn't recognize, you'll either have to go through a bible of permission popups or you've had the smarts to turn them off, expect the program to not work due to no permissions given.

I've had a lot of people complain about Vista. I've had a lot of people say it works fine too. I guess the experience differs from what you use your computer for, and how.
You're almost all ignorant, and running it on a VM only lets you see how different it LOOKS, not performs. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been, and it performs a hell of a lot better. And, note, this is only the beta!

AND, when I tested it, it was still pre-beta 1. Which means the performance is only to get better from here. You can't really knock it for the size of icons, there hasn't been a single Microsoft OS I didn't customize the appearance of, honestly.

Alright, about Vista, its fine, but not faster than XP. It has its flaws, by all means. Windows 7 solves those flaws.

Just a flashier version of Vista imo.

I saved an image of my current setup so i could reboot to vista anytime, currently on 7.

I have an XP and Vista machine, and both work well for the hardwarea and for there uses. I prefer Vista because it looks better and is faster.

But yeah, i hate the permissions popups:
"This is an app we've never heard of, are you sure you want to install? [Yes] [No]"
"Ok, but ive just got to ask the admin [Yes] [No]"
"Hey, youre the admin, do you want to install it? [Yes] [No]"
"The admin says its all cool, lets go! [Yes] [No]"

My only concern with any new windows product is that if I use it it wont let me use programs obtained...well illegally. Honestly I dont know where I got the idea that it wouldn't, but for some reasons when I think of Vista I think of being hooked up to a cop in a box.

The user friendliness looks annoying to, but only because I want things basic and running as best as they can.

Also, I liked this bit from the FAQ

"Will I get a free copy of Windows 7 once it’s released for volunteering to test the Beta?

Sorry, no."

Let's get some things straight.

I tested Windows 7 a few weeks ago (pre-public release beta).

Windows 7 is a vast improvement on windows Vista, and I'd dare to say that it is even better than XP. I do have quite a nice PC, but my ram usage was <1GB. It was certainly higher than XP, but things ran smoothly regardless - even without proper drivers.

Wireless worked right out of the box, which was a pleasant surprise and a vast improvement on XP. You can't very well download a wireless driver on XP if you can't even connect to the bloody internet.

The task bar is neat, and it's bigger so that developers can put more information on the icons given that names no longer show up. This was a much better way to manage space, and one of the things I like the most.

I did not use vista, but from when I've used it on my friends pc (which is better than mine), windows 7 seems more responsive and overall cleaner.

If you haven't used Windows 7, or have only used it in VM, shut the fuck up. No one gives a shit what you think. All posts that are blindly "omg vista sux" or "it looks like vista so its shit" will be deleted, and depending on if I hate you or not I will infract you. Keep this on topic, and don't judge on kneejerk reactions, you prepubescent twelve year olds.
yay someone who has used it!

I have yet to use it, cos i need to download it first, and i cant do it cos my net is so slow atm.

To me the Taskbar seemed to be the biggest improvment (asthetically), as im a fan of smiplicity. Im really itching to see how much better it runs than Vista *twitch*, as ive heard a lto about 7's speed.
