i only use the nupad for ascii characters, and thats like, almost never.

Number pad for card numbers. Things that are mostly numerical.

For passwords with the occasional digit, I'd use the row.

I myself use the number row, but in my computer classes we are told to use the numpad, because it's quicker when you get used to it.

I know the numpad is probably much faster, but I can't be arsed to get used to it.

I use the row, because i used to have a laptop with no numpad. So i got used to using the row, and now never use the numpad ever.
EDIT: I just realised i use the numpad for typing accented letters (like щ, for example) in my french homework.
