Yeah pretty sure it is.

Something qualifies to have a thread of its own when one can discuss it without going off topic from the point of view of the original topic.

Also it's good for the thread to have some sort of a reason to have. The wii playstation thing didn't have much of a reason.

In off topic because of lack of potential discussion or relevance to TLL.

If it's a topic that has enough potential for discussion, it can be a stand-alone thread.
It's also useful to have separate threads for music or art (etc.) partly because I'd rather not have youtube links spamming up a thread like this and also because keeping all music in one thread is the most organized and efficient way of archiving such things that we've shared with each other.

A thread about Sony vs Nintendo makes for pretty low-quality discussion at best. It is not deserving of it's own thread.
