it's not even about being a cartoon character. Any tv show will allow you to know much more about a person and with not nearly as much effort as you'd need in order to get to know someone IRL. Not to mention these characters tend to be one-dimensional people, making them idealistic and predictable. Slap a desperate need to show cleavage, as seen in anime, and you've got yourself the perfect fantasy material
