if you're on windows 8 try the 32 bit client instead, it fixed it for me.

I extract the zip file and change the bat file to the text it asks for, then I paste the directory into it, but when I run it and click play, it just says cannot connect. Weird.

I'll let you know if I get it working

edit: 20 minutes later, after numerous tries. I get it working by placing it on my desktop.
the hell, placing the folder on the desktop was the solution? meh whatever I don't care.
