Hawkesnightmare on DN. Some of the known players I have already added as a friend. While I do support the tournament idea, I do not think that many players will either need the custom card, or will be able to come up with an adequate idea for said custom card.

Most of the people who know what they are doing will be able to find a similar card or be able to string multiple cards together to produce the same effect. Those who don't know what they are doing will request a vastly overpowered card or a card that will not fit with their deck and will only screw possible combos up.

If the learning curve idea wins out (which it doesn't look like it will), I will be fine with that as well.
All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That’'s how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day.
In answer to your ill-conceived questions, no. Sith are pragmatists at heart, and doing all of those things would be unnecessary effort. Especially when the entire Order would come after him with the full fury of the Dark Side.

1. Providing a custom card is an incentive to play, as without a prize, there would be no need to participate in this particular event.
2. Since I am making the card, I will ensure that it is balanced, to the best of my ability. There will be limits on the card, depending on the deck that is being used.

Or, I could simply provide pre-made custom cards, and leave it to you to build a deck with it. Each person starts with one, and with each victory, gains an additional slot in their deck for another custom card.

While I agree that inexperienced players might not make the best decisions on contributing to the design of cards, this is a much better learning opportunity, as many of the official cards are also designed poorly.

Dueling Network's mascot is a perfect example of a poorly-designed card

I think the pre made custom card is a good idea. It leaves the surprise, and adapting your play style to accommodate the better cards you own. Making your own custom card seems to require effort from the winner and especially from you De4th. And like Hawke said, you would need considerable experience playing Yu Gi Oh to even speculate what sort of card you would want. This might also lead to much regret if you believe you chose wrong. Being guaranteed a random, but good, pre made custom card is better in my opinion.
Dyrisk: Do sluts call their private parts..Public parts?
Zandër: No, they call it "Business Assets"
Adding on to this, you could create three cards at the beginning, letting the victor choose one. you would then create another card to replace the chosen one, then letting the next winner choose from those three, and so on and so on ad infinitum.

Three new cards each week might be a better option, as I do not want to limit your choice of decks. The current state of the game encourages the use of archetypes (a series of cards that reference and support each other based on a common word or phrase in their card names), and generally, non-archetype-specific cards tend to be hilariously broken, or near-useless.

In fact, the prize cards are a good method for simulating Magic's Standard format, as newer Yu-Gi-Oh cards become increasingly overpowered, to ensure that new sets sell, rather than restricting the format to include only recently-released (or re-released) cards.
I'm seeing some awesome replays so far, this is gonna be a tough one to judge. Good luck to all of you.

Also, it would be nice to see some more IRC activity. It's been pretty barren lately, so get in there if you guys can.

Ahhh, so that's how Yu-Gi-Oh makes their money...
