No, he wouldn't have to kill the animal. All that has to be done is take certain DNA from the animal. Also A lot of his work is done in theory and 3D DNA building.

yes and then he would have to fertilize the egg, the put it in the womb, then after some time they will kill that animal, take out the womb to check to see if the egg is growing well, then put it back into a new animal, repeat this a couple of times till they find the animal that can feed and grow the fetus and then give birth. its complex... if drake wants to correct me in anyway I'd love to hear it.
