HTOTM: FUSION
People with kids really shouldn't smoke. The kids of smokers statistically nearly always become smokers, and you can't get away from the second-hand smoke if it's your parents who smoke. And trying to tell your kids not to smoke when you yourself smoke just doesn't sink in as much, because they think if their parents do it, there's no reason they can't.

Never had one though.
lol
I am aware this is a 'smokers' discussion, so I hope I'm not intruding with my absurdly-shiny-lungs-of-cleanliness.

I see a lot of people saying they smoke just to relieve stress. There are plenty other ways to relieve stress. I have a super stressful life with school, my job, my band, and hard times at home. I have to find an outlet for all this anxiety. So, every other day me and my buddy will go to the gym and work out together and we will push each other to work harder. It's the best stress reliever and it improves your life in every aspect, and it's a lot of fun if you have a buddy to go with you. Fun, constructive, and doesn't ruin your life.

My point is, there's plenty of other ways to relieve your 'stress', if indeed that is the real reason you are smoking. In many ways I would say that smoking increases your stress level because of frustration/anger/ etc. But I can't say I've walked in a smoker's shoes either.
I really like Camel turkish royals, and newport 100's

I dont smoke much though, just on occasion.
I used to though alot, its bad for you though, and im to young lol. I smoked constantly for about 3 years since i was 13 then relized how bad it was...and my dad made me quit.

I second that.

my bother smoked for 4 or 5 years, And It pretty much ruined his life.
He lost his girlfriend
He lost his home.
and he lost his job.
I was kind of worried for him becuase he lives at his friends house and does nothing for weeks at a time. Me and my parents payed to get him shots for his health and boom after 5 days he was habbit free he got his job back his grilfriend(now his wife) and his great life he had before his addiction.
It was exspensive but completly worth it.
I also have a friend who smoked he used the healing pads that you put on your arm. after 2 weeks he stopped.

I guess im tryign to say is if you are not happy with smoking there is lots of ways to stop Shots,Gum chewing(recomended by doctors) and even healing pads.
Smoking will hurt you in the long run.

Are you sure it wasnt something worse than cigs that he was addicted to?
I mean, that sounds pretty intense just for a cig addiction ;o

Also ill smoke a cig very occasionally. As in it can take me weeks to go through one pack. Generally I used to have one driving home from class a couple times a week and that was it. I know it's bad and I dont ever plan to form an addiction, but like a lot of other things things it's nice to have every so often.

I bought a pack of lucky strikes recently, which I actually liked. Expensive though :S

BlakNWyte, you sound so wonderfully american. I plan to start working out and living healthily, when I'm in a more stable point in my life. At the moment, to just have a cigarette and a glass of coke is one of the few times when you really can relax. You don't ACTIVELY force out stress as you do with gymming, you just lean back and relax.

KronosLord, you should start campaigning for something. You're salting the truth here, and you're doing it alot. Unless cigarettes actively go against your brothers employer, his girlfriends and his landlords religion, there's no way a cigarette addiction will fuck shit up that bad. There had to be some underlying causes. Also lol, cigarettes won't make you rebel against the establishment and laze around your home for days. >_>

FoodEater, I can see how that's true. Seeing as my friends with non-smoking parents usually go "ew, cig smoke" and I on the other hand go "how wonderful". I seriously always loved the smell, and I liked the taste from cig one. I suppose I was just introduced early. On the other hand, you can't view parenting through a statistics-lens. Kids/teens, and also, adults have their own choices. Parents are allowed to live, and they are still allowed to smoke. All they can really do is tell them that it's bad and that it MIGHT eventually kill you. My mother said wisely "since I've smoked since I was 11, I can't judge you. But I can tell you that it was one of my worst mistakes". I fully know what I sign up for, both my maternal grandparents have had cancer (my grandfather died of it). So all these anti-smoking campaigns.. We know what we're doing.

Lastly, Peter: That's true, which is why I smoked them. I'm smoking Prince White at the moment though, pretty shitty aftertaste. :|
