Eh, I say legalize cannabis and make tobacco illegal if anything. An important difference between tobacco and marijuana is that aside from smoking, tobacco is fucking useless. But marijuana can be turned into so many other things people use, and in some cases like fabric the hemp version is better than what we have now.
If you look at it from a "its bad for people" stance, you are missing 75% of what the argument for legalization is. It is literally this super flexible resource that we totally ignore because people get high and maybe skip work or are slow to the draw. Its not JUST a drug, its a versatile material that is cheap, easy to work with, and gets great results, that's like a damn engineers wet dream right there.
Also, another thing not many people are taking into account is that marijuana is not addictive.
To compare nicotine or alcohol to pot is nonsense. People get mentally dependent on marijuana, but nobody gets physically addicted. If cigarettes weren't SO damn addicting than they would be a non-issue, because nobody would smoke them if they didn't feel they had to to satisfy their addiction. To a point the same can be said for alcohol. I know it happens, but non alcoholics lives are (in comparison) rarely ruined by drinking, alcoholics though will reach a point where they may as well be smoking crack, and their lives are totally fucked.
