Moray does add functionality that POVRay proper doesn't have. Inverse-Kinematics would be useful to pose Tori-people. The material editor is faster than trial-and-error, especially if you're unfamiliar with the way things look.
That said, I do everything in straight POV SDL. It's the hard-core way, and proper use of macros lets you do all kinds of cool stuff.
A proper text editor is great, though. Convenient search and go-to-line# capabilities are key. EditPad Lite is my texteditor of choice.
