There used to be an option on the forum to use that kind of forum theme.

Old members from before the forum upgrade may have less than 10rep points, while newly registereds start with 10.

You'd be surprised. I've seen plenty of "+rep plox" threads where I've been the only member to -rep the original poster. There have also been various instances where a member will +rep people with low rep only for the reason that they have low rep, which completely defeats the point.

Even though my rep is looking good, i don't really think we need it much. If many people think you are an ass or an idiot, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't go around unaware of that. Well, maybe only if you are an idiot.
Anyway: it should be evident from replys people leave.

If we keep it though, imo it would be nice to view who repped you x)
Now i know it can cause some childish BS like "revenge" -rep, but since people can see the topic and who gave it to you, i think it's ok. So if some Bobby69 who has -15 points had his -rep "revenge", no one would take it seriously.

Ok First of all, To alex. I really don't care if people give bad rep because I deserve it some times, but when I get bad rep for absolutly no reason, it pisses me off.


Also I read every one elses posts, and I thought of all that before I posted, and all of it is true to a limit. I also hate the ones that doesn't show if its poitive or negative. Which is it?!?!?! and the people that give you rep and say nothin or othin about why you got that +/- rep.

I think whatever rep system is used, people will abuse it in one way, shape, form, or fashion; making it pointless to begin with (the biggest abuse being multi-accounters).

I sort of like the current system compared to the original karma system. The problem with it is that it is sort of becoming either "I found out you -reped me, ZOMG imma -rep you back", "I rep you, you rep me kthx?", "I give you +rep, you like me now right?", or "imma +rep everyone and put my name on everyone’s profile so people can see how great I am and fuel my ego as a result".

I'd say if it is kept there should be restrictions:

A limit to how much rep a person can give a day (maybe 3 at most).

A time limit to how soon you can rep the same person again (maybe a week).

Must be registered for at least 2 months.

Names shown of those who rep.

Even still with those restrictions it wouldn't necessarily be ideal.. As then people would shy away from -rep unless everyone is giving -rep to the person they give -rep too (this will keep them from standing out) or if they feel the person they give negative rep to has little community status (basically they would avoid giving -rep to mods and be more likely to give it to new forum goers).

I'd personally say the most accurate form of reputation is the kind that forms with or without numbers and profile comments, as it is the only kind that actually accounts for anything (it is also the only thing people see anyway).

I've never entirely bothered with rep. I find it a rather funny tool to use at the best of times, but I'll repeat now what I've mentioend before; Rep is simply a figure. A statistic. The people who gain it are not. They are people. In order to take into account purely the rep, then you would deny this person the idea that what they say matters, no matter the message?

Stupidity. If they say something good, they say something good. If they say something bad, likewise. By focussing on rep, it makes the viewer oblivious to the contents. I'm rather impartial to that, and much prefer the idea that a user's post is not inherently bad depending on the user.

And as for everyone who is a rep whore... Well, enough said really.
