I used to play often before, guess since I had nothing else to do.
Nowadays when I'm a member of several communities and got some hobbies I found myself rarely playing anymore, so now the only thing I have installed on my computer is Toribash, point & click adventures, rhythm games and Visual Novels, and I still rarely play them.
Older games is way more fun than the new ones, I always get a little annoyed when people think a game will be awesome just because of the graphics.
I've pretty much lost hope for the newer games, I just can't see any difference between the newer releases of BF and CoD, and it looks like more and more games is jumping on the same train...
I find it more fun talking about Zelda and Fire Emblem than all those fps games that is popular right now, but I find it sad that not many people I know is like that.

Ah well, people who like to play those new games can play them, I personally don't like them at all, but everyone got their own taste.

I play games because it's one of my main focusses in life, and I would hopefully like to Develop games some day.

I don't think I've ever played a game to escape reality. I just play games to play games. There's no real explanation for it, really.
It's like how that one erratic hamster always runs in his ball. He knows he's not really going anywhere, but he does it anyway.

I just play games for fun, and i think it's impossible to fled from the reality with games, 'cause even the most fantasy games have a point of reality, like, in most of them you're an hero which have to defeat the evil and things like this. But, isn't it the way we live? Fighting against every kind of evil, the wars, the violence, the corruption.

So, this way, i think you can't really escape from the reality with anything, even with a game.

I have a Competitive background and play games since my childhood i play because i want to play.

Also its a nice way to waste some time and talk with friends all over the world that you cant see every day.

Yeah playing with friends is my main one, but I fuckin love retreating within RPG's.

Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 were all such brilliant addictions.
I agree however, that playing games just helps chill you out. Takes you away from stuff you're obliged to worry about and let's you have your little bit of fun and excitement. Not to mention somtimes a dash of adrenaline in light of Fear 2's mention.

For some however, I would have to add that competitive gaming is now on the rise, with some addicted to the limelight.
It's no joke, I have friends who just stay at home either spamming ranked bg's and arena's in their guild on WoW or chill on CoD with their clan battling people.
With Blizzcon and shit like that, people get so hyped!

But for me, the main part is just slowing down my day with a bit of fun. It's definitely relaxing.

They are a false goal. See, there's this factor that develops in your mind whenever you can't do something. The factor is that when you can't do something, you want to do it more. The difficulty of games develops that factor.

Also on this same note, because we can't do certain things in real life, games help to entertain our fantasies. Better than books or movies even, seeing as you interact with them (though they too work better for some than others).

Like we can't hunt monsters, fight with gods, command legions of space marines, shoot lightning from our hands, discover lost cities, fly spaceships between galaxies, or rampantly kill things without consequence in real life.
So games help entertain these ideas which would normally not be possible, and are thus fun.
