When I picture competitive online Toribash, I think of aikido. It's basically the closest to pure talent in multiplayer you'll get to be honest.

Depends on what you consider skill. I consider being able to react well to losing a joint as good a skill as being able to force a disqualification. Aikido is a good mode for demonstrating skill in momentum and body control, but I'd say that TK is a good mode for demonstrating skill in both joint destruction and joint protection, and both are good modes to demonstrate the ability to predict enemy attacks and defense based on enemy positioning. While aikido does have more time for the game to drag out, thus eliminating the effect a good opener can have on the game's outcome, TK does have the instant gratification for a spectator because of it's short play time and high rate of dismemberment.

Though in all honesty, I still believe the freestyle mod to have been the most skill based :s

Youtube Channel i sometimes post videos of other games
In the real fighting clubs you even cant predict moves, its part of a fight to hace a luckshot or the better momentum. Sparrings are the a class of fighting in toribash.
E-sports worthy? Nah i dont know, its too slow i think.
It is based on turns, so it is not really anything like sports. Like totally not. We're more spastic fighters...

Are you saying that in a real fight you can't predict moves? If yes,so that's a pure lie lol

Imo tb is also very nice to watch, but only when plays a very good player, and of course only in your favourite mods:for example i rarely enjoy to watch an aikido "pro" match, while i love to watch wushu "pro" matchs.

About the mod everyone could simple says his favourite mod(it's clear that if you love a mod,it's because you think it's the best in every aspect),but i think that for a hypothetical official championship the best would be to personalize the settings with very high frac and dt(imo the dt should be almost impossible to get:would be also nice to remove it for let it become more similar to the reality, but anyway it's a game and dms are fun)

In my opinion toribash is easily e-sports league worth game.

Only problems are the lack of playerbase (as pointed out several times already)
and sheer diversity of mods/moden (this was also pointed out several times..).

Only 'glitch' worth mentioning is 'collision detection dq' glitch where too many collisions cancel/stop DQ. But hey, Real referees also make mistakes! Most other glitches are avoidable and/or part og core-gameplay (boomshots etc).

I don't see Toribash being too slow or "too uninteresting to watch" (atleast if we'd be able to see both players moving joints and ghosts changing in real time) if anything Toribash might be too fast paced for accurate commentary.

Too hard to start? Excuse me? If I play against pro SC2 / DOTA (inser-any-dota-clone-here) / CS player the outcome is same if they'd play against me in Toribash.
I might get one or too lucky kills, but thaẗ́'s it. But same goes for them against me in my turf.
< Larfen> also my replay thread has more views than the rules thread \o/

...This probably explains most problems in this community.
Toribash has all the qualifications for being an ESL game; 1-on-1, competitive, skill-based, and interesting to watch for those who know what's going on. No game will be that interesting to watch for someone who doesn't know anything about the game.

Problems with making it one is the lack of userbase (due to lack of advertisement, which could easily be rectified) and renown (which could be rectified with advertisement too). Money might or might not be an issue, I have no idea about Nabi's current monetary situation.
THX TO ALL RESPONSES! I'll try my best to get this game popular in e-sports. We need to introduce this game to YouTube! Get this game on Machinima and clean up this community filled with trolls. Or atleast have a enable/disable chat option in-game.

The game has been on youtube for years. The only people interested in the videos are the people who play toribash though. Or occasionally there will be a popular video that gets some new members to join.

glad to see there are some reasonable people on forum who are not blindly worshiping toribash devs.
game is UN DE VE LO PED
physics engine needs to be fixed
many bugs (that remained unfixed from all versions) needs to be fixed
last but not least forum mods needs to be replaced with professionals and not like now 2 or 3 serious guys and dozen of pimpleass children who are making they own rules on the go
i would love that EA or any other competent party buys toribash because it has potential and i would pay for good game like this
