I'll allow myself to bump this thread :P
I discovered Urban Terror around last Christmas. Already had tried it years ago, while it was still a mod for quake III. At that time I used to play counter strike (1.5 or smthin) and did not liked urban terror.
But when I came back to it some months ago, I had a big crush.
The game has had a lot of improvements (graphics, models, gameplay...)
Still the models will look a little "simple" at the beginning, but in fact they are really fine and well designed and thought for this game.
This is the FPS I've played where you can get the more speed (with the help of circle jumps) and nice sensations by jumping up on walls (I mean you are on the ground, facing a wall, you jump, and you can jump again, taking support on the wall to get higher and faster !)
It needs some time to get used to its behavior and gameplay, but then I joined a team, and there the real fun begins (I was in RBS team, one of the best euro teams :P )
With a lot of different tournaments, several game modes (bomb, like in CS, in rounds, Capture the flag, Free for all, in wave respawn etc...) I wouldn't say it is a copy of CS.
I re-installed CS 1.6, and definitely uninstalled it
CS is only camping, and so slow :P
In URT you can have some nice headshots, cooperative play is intense, and the wave respawn gives the opportunity to play more than just 30 secs :P
After it is obvious that it is just a matter of taste and people used to CS might not like it. But you shouldn't say it is a pale copy. It has its own flavour that is really addictive.
Drawbacks on my computer some sad lags (but I often got lags on any game
even TB) really frustrating when you are aiming right to the head of somebody and still you won't touch it.
But for ppl with good connexions (aka my teammates at the time) no trouble at all, and very efficient and precise aiming. Sure, it isn't the best looking game but for a free FPS, this is one of the more interesting and addictive.
If you had liked the nerves of Quake and wanted to have some teamplay in a "realistic" environnement, this is the game for you.
Just give it a try, it is worth the download
