I think scripting is less popular because (afaik) it would probably be harder to do than modding (which is why modding is more popular).

And a suggestion, there is a mod section where people upload mods, why not have a script section, add the top scripters to the supervisors of the board like Blam and Dafe, whoever else is good at it I don't really know. It could only help.

On a side note, I usually try out most of the scripts that Blam and Dafe make, some like the airplane one don't really appeal to me. I will try it though, I never saw it until now.
Neh, the only worthwhile venture I see in scripting is functionality that seems like it should have been there. Partly the reason why I made FreeCam.
I should stop working on so many worthless scripts, then.
Radioactive torso's description should be, "You have cancer like wow."

C Ya!

:/

I respect your opinion. But saying you dont like scripts if you haven't even tried one is pretty stupid. Pherhaps you just didn't know what to do on that script?

And that is my fault. xD

In relation to both of these, I considered a concept some time ago which, as far as I am aware, is not possible with current scripting.
However, would it not be feasible to create an environment-based script which could interpret output from a 3d design program (3ds, c4d, etc) and build a envmod from it?
I mentioned a similar idea to hampa at last year's toricon, and he seemed to think it might be possible with some changes to the system, though at the time I also brought up the possibility of boolean operators for basic geometric shapes enabling great complexity, which would imaginably be a more difficult alteration.
As for Dafe's work, it is ever-amusing, but not particularly groundbreaking in an widely useful sense.
scripts should be able to communicate with the forum somehow.
Like maybe a script that give you a little in-game message when somebody comments on a thread you're subscribed to or something.

Scripts can be handy, or can also give someone the edge in a game. For example the movesaver is a bit of a cheat if you ask me.

I enjoy using the scripts that people make, for example a dismemberment script i liked playing with. You put the mouse over a joint and pressed "q" i think, and the part would dismember. It was funny going on armremover then throwing your dismembered shins at uke ;)

have any of you played the script where you fight against uke in real time? I can't remember the name of it but that was crazy, you pressed keys and your tori would turn and punch and stuff. Another fun script was a script that shot your hands feet and head off, with different key strokes. So you could point your hands at uke and blow through him.

There aren't alot of multiplayer scripts, im sure that's because you could cheat by dismembering your opponent lol. The only script i can think if that would effect multiplayer gameplay would be the movesaver.

The only reason i can think that scripts aren't so popular is because they aren't mentioned enough. I only found them by wandering through the forum. Since there isn't a great demand for scripts maybe the scripter's just got tired with it? Im sure that if i was making scripts and wasn't getting anything out of it i wouldn't want to continue.

If you agree with me, a rate up would be nice. Though i don't think i can compete with dafe's +7 rating on the 2nd post ;o
sure, scripts are important. one I'd like to see is a more complex video-making script, with more options and perhaps a playback.

scripts have sort of been forgotten, which is really a shame, since they can do some really cool things. one of my personal favorites is "lol-nade" where you can launch off your hand and make it explode.

and yes, dafe is the script master.

On 18, 2008 of the year August, we shall have tea. The following day we eat anyone wearing purple clothes. Then we get into tanks, drive a mile away from each other, and start firing random shells into the air. First one to hit the other tank gets a 5 second head start in the 1 legged race.

In the one legged race, you will be hogtied and forced to compete in the Boston marathon using your penis only. We shall also set down bear traps, landmines, barbed wire, and floating thumbs. Your penis will be painted to resemble an illusion that looks like a 3-D steak; as a result, several Dobermen and Rottweilers we will be taking for a walk that morning which have been starved the previous week may attack.

Scripting is probably the most powerful function that Toribash offers in the third party mod department. Scripts can do anything that the conventional mods can. For example, there was a mod-maker that came with 3.0 that allowed you to create simple environments with hardly any effort. If this idea was expanded upon by someone who knows much more about scripting, the conventional mods could be created several times easier.

Also, LUA is much easier to learn than many other coding languages. If people merely took the time to learn the code, they could really do amazing things with Toribash. If someone put enough effort in, they could run a game of Tetris or Snake while they wait in line, be able to close it, and then reopen it as soon as they arrive at the end of the line again. A script could, in theroy, be created to give damage reports on a match, or even create comic style popups that say, "You hit [joint] for [x] damage!"

The only downside is that Toribash does not allow the full capabilities of LUA code (to my knowledge, just look at the thread's second post). Some options available in other LUA games, such as Garry's Mod, may not exist in Toribash LUA. However, even with these limitations the right amount of ingenuity can result in something completely useful and creative.
