I just thought of another.
Monster Hunter.
Basically almost everyone lives simple lives in little isolated villages where everybody goes about their lives trading, farming or doing whatever it is they do for a job to keep everyone happy, safe, and fed.
That includes hunting gigantic monsters. Some of which have limited power over the elements. If a particularly nasty monster shows up and starts devouring your cabbage field, you can just send up a notice to the village chief and they'll let any interested hunter know what needs doing. Monster gets killed, cabbages grow for the harvest, hunter receives nice new monster materials, and the whole village profits as a result.
What's even better about this is that just about anyone can be a hunter. This is because the skill of the hunter is more or less determined by his
equipment rather than his personal attributes. This equipment is made from the monsters he hunts or the materials he collects (such as iron ore, or various bugs and
plants), meaning that with enough patience and determination even a lowly commoner (such as myself in this situation) could string together a set of armor and a weapon and make a career out of fending off vicious beasts. All one need do is take the materials to the local smithy and pay him to make it for you.
The technology of the time the game's set in is a little strange though. It seems to be bordering between steampunk and late medieval tech, with stuff like massive drills built into fortifications to fend off truly massive monsters, firearms being reasonably common but not standard affair (melee weapons such as longswords and lances are still very prevalent - possibly because they're better against the opponents they're facing), and steam-powered hot air balloon ships being present.
The best comparison I could make between this and real life would be that say, you lived in a village in Africa and killed some hyenas who were eating your farm animals. You then took these hyenas to a local armorsmith who tells you he could make you a set of armor or a weapon out of their parts for the right price. You bring him the stuff and the money and he makes you a nice new armor set that, once worn, somehow makes you run faster and for longer, as well as protecting you from injury. The village chief gets interested and starts offering you low-risk jobs like hunting more hyenas or gathering some herbs from a distant field or some such.
Some time later and you're walking through town wearing a full set of Rhino armor and are frequently being asked to hunt down riskier animals... for the right price of course.
Yeah, I like the sound of that
