A perfect environment to raise an army in, wouldn't you think? I've noticed a problem with shows that are about the zombie apocalypse. The main cast usually ends up in a small group. This... this is the dumbest thing you can do. Granted, a small group is faster, but they have less defensive and offensive capabilities. Now, it works in shows to create tension and feelings of anxiety, while at the same time allowing for better character development for the cast. In life, The more people you have that are capable = The better off you are. You are able to keep people more rested, ensure a larger proportionate safety, and secure a larger area more thoroughly. Through expansion, gathering people becomes easier to do, and supplies become easier to find. You gain the advantage once you have enough area and people to maintain a grown source of food, and the larger the group, the more likely you can secure a water source. Granted, the risk of mistake is higher, but to a properly prepared civilization, that becomes a secondary problem. Then, you expand, and expand, and expand. Taking back the land from the zed is top priority, and destroying them is also a priority.
