They call me a hypocrit,
It is a name I bear.
Honestly, I'm sick of it!
It just ain't fair.
I sit here and work and study,
For a message to bring, though I'm not worthy.
I don't claim perfection, nor anything near it!
For I know I'm not close, but my spirit is lit.
You see, people stare and point fingers at me!
They claim that I say I am free
From the sin in this world that I warn them of.
But this is far from the truth merely because
I am human! Just like you!
But I refuse to sit here and just wonder who
Will stand up and fight for what's right, you see!
So I stand behind my podium, just me.
Someone has to man up and teach
These people who are willing to reach
To the stars of the Heaven above!
Just to know that they are loved.
Yes, I sin, but it's cause I'm human,
But I still don't want to sit here gloomin
Waiting for someone pure to apporach.
Why, if I did that, I'd be toast!
For who in this world is free from sin?
No one! So how can we win?
If we don't accept those smitten in sin,
Then who can lead Jesus to our hearts and let Him in?
So call me a hypocrit, a demon, a whore,
I honestly can tell you, it won't matter anymore.
Because deep down, I know at least I'm trying.
And not just standing around as the world is dying.
Point your finger, laugh, and mock,
Or maybe you could open the lock
To the door to your heart that's closed for so long
To hear and understand the story so strong
That "all have sinned and fallen short",
It's not just me, it's the whole fort!
I am not perfect, not anywhere close
In fact, it is in that reason I boast
Because that means I need God and unending love
To save me from Hell and from Satan's glove.
Preachers do sin, yes it's true,
But God sees all sin as equal,
So judge us if you must, but then look at you.
Do you have and secrets that aren't exactly legal?
I don't mean to condemn or point fingers at you,
But we are guilty of sin, isn't this true?
Now that being said, I would like to say
That all can return from being astray.
God loves all, not just me or you,
Which means that He wishes us to
Be happy in life, not gloomy all our days.
But this doesn't mean to go out and get dazed
By all these drugs and bad things in our world.
Because they aren't just commands, they are here not to hurl
Our lives in to darkness and despair, don't you see?
When God said what to do, He thought of our bodies.
Now that being said, I'd like to conclude,
And I hope that I wasn't to terribly rude.
I just needed to convey some simple ideas,
That preachers aren't perfect, only He is.
So if it's "hypocrit" I'm called for the job that I do,
I apologize that I may give you a clue
That "preachers are perfect!", however it isn't the case.
We're as guilty as the rest of this space.
But it's through God's grace
That we can preach in this place.
For if we do not, then who will?
Especially now with all these empty spirits to fill...
