I think about this quite often. It's kind of strange, so you'll have to pay attention.
Okay, so basically, how do you do math in your head? Like, what (Piece by piece) do you think when doing math?
For example, this is how I do it. Let's say I saw the problem "8 + 7". Although I already know the answer is 15, my mind still does the work in my head. Here is my thought process:
1. Take the larger number
2. Take however many the larger number needs to get to ten away from the smaller number.
3. 7-2 = 5. 8+2 = 10.
4. Add the 10 you have, + the rest of the smaller number.
5. = 15
How fast people do math problems almost entirely depends on how you decide to do math when you're little. When you're first introduced to math, you make a way in your brain of how you will solve simple math problems from then on out.
So you can very easily have a very smart person IQ wise that is terrible at math, and a person with a more average IQ, or lower, that is amazing at it. I find it interesting. Let me know if I worded that weirdly and it's too confusing.
