Oh, I should probably go through and try them again. I'm not even sure if I have an exponent button on my keyboard...
Buy me food and tell me I'm cute.
You don't. Look up "how to make strange characters with a normal keyboard" or soemthing similar. They're alt codes. you know, alt + a combo of numbers makes strange characters.
Oh well that sucks.... I only have a Mac. LOL.
I think there's a character keyboard viewer or something in the settings though that makes those funny characters. I've seen it before at a friends house. I just have to find it on mine.

EDIT:
Yup... doesn't work.

Hmm. That's strange. I wonder why that is.

Also, I have a new topic.

I think about this quite often. It's kind of strange, so you'll have to pay attention.

Okay, so basically, how do you do math in your head? Like, what (Piece by piece) do you think when doing math?

For example, this is how I do it. Let's say I saw the problem "8 + 7". Although I already know the answer is 15, my mind still does the work in my head. Here is my thought process:

1. Take the larger number
2. Take however many the larger number needs to get to ten away from the smaller number.
3. 7-2 = 5. 8+2 = 10.
4. Add the 10 you have, + the rest of the smaller number.
5. = 15

How fast people do math problems almost entirely depends on how you decide to do math when you're little. When you're first introduced to math, you make a way in your brain of how you will solve simple math problems from then on out.

So you can very easily have a very smart person IQ wise that is terrible at math, and a person with a more average IQ, or lower, that is amazing at it. I find it interesting. Let me know if I worded that weirdly and it's too confusing.

Ok, so lets say I have to add 37 and 45. First thing I do is visualize it like this.

3+4, 7+5

Then I add 7 and 5.

3+4, 12

Then I add the 1 from the 12 to the 3+4

3+4+1, 2

Then add the first part together.

8, 2

Put them together.

82=37+45

Either that, or my brain groans about having to do math for 5 minutes, and eventually gives me the answer through so random process.

Oh lordy how do I do math in my head. For addition I usually go backwards from how you're supposed to do it, left-to-right. 173+268: 1 and 2 is 3, 7 and 6 is 13 so 3 becomes 4 and we have 43 then 3 and 8 is 11 so 3 becomes 4 and we have 441. Sounds very inefficient but I'm quite good at it. Multiplication is fun. 69*23, let's take the smaller number and split it up so 69*2 is 138 but it's a 20 not a 2 so it's 1380 then we've got 69*3, 60*3 is 180 + 3*9 is 180+27 so 207, then finally 1380+207 is 1587.

For the basic operations it's all very straight-forward and matter-of-fact. Where it really gets interesting is when I start doing square roots or, god forbid I forgot my calculator on a math test and I have to do my trig functions in my head *shudder*. Let's try a sine in our heads shall we? Let's do a sin(4) (working in radians of course because degrees are for scrubs). sin(pi) is 0 in the middle of a down curve which means it's going to be a negative; sin(1.5*pi) is a -1 on the curve, and 1.5*pi is just under 4 3/4, putting 4 just over halfway between them, but with the curve of the sine that'll be about .75 of the way on the y axis.. Let's say -.75. And the answer turns out to be -.7568etc. Woop.

Well okay.

I meant simple math. Because I think almost everyone does double digit addition the same. Add the tens, then add the ones.

Like, go through your thought process of adding two one-digit numbers.

Also, I have my second monitor set up now, and it's pretty awesome. I can be looking through the forums and still be looking at Toribash and/or playing. Pretty cool
