As for 2v2... well, in theory the engine is perfectly capable of doing it.
Of course, this means double the joints and body parts, and approximately quadruple the collision checks.
And to think that a large amount of the slowness in Toribash is due to these collision checks, well...
If it's possible to be created, I would like it as an available feature. Those of us that can run it should be able to, especially if it's as easily implementable as you make it sound.
Also, collisions will cause CPU stress, much more so than graphical stress. You figure that under pressure ingame, my dual core at 3.3 ghz will hit ~25 percent load with two people fighting in spirit wrestling, which involves quite a few collisions. If you add another two people wrestling, double that 25 percent, hit 50. Now say that all four of them dove into oneanother and its a massive 4 player ball of fractures. That means that in theory, an e8400(3.0ghz dual core), which is a budget processor, can handle 4 player Toribash.
And realistically it won't scale that well, but then realistically there won't be a 4 player fracball. And besides, I play at 1280x800, I could always turn my res down.
