@SmileyJones - It's when you combine all 3 of the things I mentioned that fighting becomes a problem. Sure 1 person can do it while the other sticks to typical aikido stuff, but if both try it just doesn't work.
@Zorath - Improv moves are common amongst a lot of the people that have been playing a long time, basically the people who have lost interest in winning and just want to have fun. I agree that 'noob' moves are common with other players, same with sticking to a handful of openers. However giving it a bigger dojo won't stop this happening, people can and will shovel regardless. I'm not being biased, I've played in both but my preference is still towards the smaller dojo.
Reading though this thread has lead me to a simple conclusion: New mod needed.
Bigger area, shorter turn frames, longer match. That would result in something where combat was viable. Shorter frames allow for more technical playing so IMO 35 should be the highest. Maybe increase the engage distance? I'm not sure about that but it could be something to test. And of course the dojo... The 800 used on most big dojo-aikido mods is maybe too big? At that size it may as well not be turned on. 600ish could be a good compromise.
Anyhoo (I talk too much), maybe time to create a whole new mod rather than changing a few things & calling it aikido.
