In the US culture: Males are supposed to be strong both physically and mentally while also being the breadwinner in the house. Females are supposed to be weak, physically, mentally, and mostly be dependent on a male.
When you have traditional cultural viewpoints such as those, and if you live in a country that was basically founded on such viewpoints, OF COURSE THERE WILL BE DOUBLE STANDARDS. Both genders are different, so both genders will be treated differently.
Also, since the US has been on the "Road to Equality" for over a century by now, wouldn't today's double standards be nothing compared to the double standards back then? I mean, women couldn't even vote before the 1950s... Or am I looking at double standards wrong?
Or you're over impassioned about these double standards. Double standards are things people don't think about, knee jerk reactions to issues, and cognitive dissonances between actions. People don't think about double standards, rather they feel something is taboo for some people and not others. The purpose of my posts were to analyze and break down the reasons behind why people feel how they feel about double standards. The phenomena of cultural double standards are feelings of taboo but these feelings can be dissected and maybe we can all be on the same page through it.
Achem, my statement is still valid.
WHOOOOOSH
But seriously, I think the topic for this discussion was WHY people think some double standards are good or bad.
Here's my TLR version for the ones jumping into this argument.
People are stupid.
Also, you should try to read other people's posts.
Also Ray be deleting his posts now? I don't exactly see them.

No RayA, you are clearly confused. Double standards can be concious choices, it's all in the name "double standards", literally to have two different standards that you hold people to depending on (in this case) their gender.
