at the same time though, isn't it more fun this way? Isn't the lord of the flies nature of the community and its moderation sort of why we have such fond memories for our time spent on these forums?

So the kid crashed the car, but he took a bunch of pills and had a fun time doing it. A blaze of glory. That's great. If you love it, let it die. If you love it, let it kill you. Crash that car. Embrace death.

i think the problem of "the game is boring/the game doesn't retain attention" is only half true. it's more that the free game market is now dominated by games that are addictive by design, and also free games are generally just higher quality now, even if they are parasitic in regards to retention and monetization (toribash has no chance as long as games like apex and genshin are free)

and 2. the game is fun for new players but not as long as you have them playing these stupid ass ""competitive"" mods like boxshu lenshu abd. nobody plays the fun mods that got toribash 10 million views on nerdcubed and markiplier's channel.

new players just click multiplayer and see everyone is in public lenshu, wait for 15 minutes to play, get dunked on and then uninstall. the spirit of this game has shifted from "i'm gonna swing my sword arms around until one of us explodes" to "i'm gonna use this pre-made opener to get into an optimal position where you can't get close to me without me kicking you and getting 80 thousand points." but tbh i think tb is a relic of the past and at this point in 2023 lolnade and jesuscopter aren't novel enough to outshine any other free game

i don't rly agree with the sentiment that this game dying because old players are getting banned, tb would not be less dead if there was like 20 more duelers who have been playing for 10 years. tb dying is a new player issue and the players who are getting banned are most definitely not going to add anything positive to the game for new players

however if instead what you are asking is "why are old players leaving," i would probably say the hyper fixation on tc is what derailed the community and in turn the game. tell me tb is not infested with sick and addled tc junkies

toribash isn't in comp with those games, totally different appeal and genres for all 3. the game isn't boring overall, there is just no incentive to play games other than customization, and that gets old for a while. additionally, there is no introduction to any other game concepts either for new players, such as modmaking and scripting. the main appeal is that the game is so unique, unlike any other. the biggest downside is actually waiting for a match in servers. I know there were minigame suggestions during the queue, but I do not remember why it was never pushed more

actually right now boxshu is the most played mod, I wouldn't even consider it competitive at all, it's closer to classic judo than anything. it would be nice to have competitive events as well as silly events with mods you can have fun playing win or lose

yea see the above, same applies, promoting more fun mods for 1 side of the player base, and compet for the vets.

I fucking hate Loona
Obviously, TB is not going to attract new players, media attention is almost none and with the same concept and movement that was brought from 08 can only last so long for newcomers attention span, honestly the people that stay are those that generally had experience a good time with this game if u were here around 2010-2019 and it will always be a game that we won’t forget. Now it’s more laid back and like urban said, it’s not going to compete against the AAA online games that are free to play.

There has been no real dramatic change promoting the media with the game and honestly that’s fine with me imo, it keeps the game nostalgic.

I think people just want to put the blame on a certainty because they don’t have real answers. As a tbashian, there wasn’t a main focal point to why the game isn’t as active but rather a lot of things that were in plan to do but never happened, which led to a lot of happy users quitting because there was lots of hype through new content released each year that had never planned out.

It’s alright at the end of the day, as small as Nabi Studio is can we just appreciate what they have made for us to enjoy in this community? No one would’ve thought of this game would’ve still be running and relevant to us active members by the idea of 1-3 people..a lot of free to play games / forum communities never last more than 3 years

I agree with mist it's had an amazing run, can't point to many 2006 released games that are still somewhat alive

Maybe it's just the fact that the lifetime of the game was due to its incredibly unique concept and a lot of people have pointed out the potential it could have if it were expanded upon and updated, i mean even just bringing minibash back would have been good.

If you look at the success of 'your only move is hustle', which was inspired by toribash (at least the turn based fighting/timer element) but made very accessible to new players while still having a high skill ceiling, i think that supports those criticisms to an extent. It's a lot simpler of course, which makes the accessibility easier to achieve

Toribash next seems like it'll be a lot more suited for casual gameplay and less for freaks like me so fingers crossed for 2018
