In my opinion, simple solution. Allow 2.6 to become, for all intents and purposes, the new demo version, but still charge for 3.0.

I mean, then they get Free Toribash, like they want, but if they wanna get 3.0, they must buy the game. Of course, they can have a demo version of that, but its gonna be like the current demo version.

Of course, I haven't thought this through that much, but I both agree that the community should grow but also that the regged members shouldn't be so casually cast aside... It'd need more then 20k toricreds to fix that.

But, then hampa would have to release bugfixed for each of the two versions, at the same time, for windows linux AND mac, that sounds kind of troublesome :s

If They Decied to not make torribash free... will i have to pay 4 V3.0 even though i payed 4 V2.6

just make a b3.0 (beta) with its own incomplete featurz an servurz and a 3.0 with full stuff,but with different servers and if ya wanna get 3.0 you gotta imput your key in b3.0 and download the 3.0.

Well, this question is not about money for me at all (not becouse i got a key for competition), as i think for most registered players too. What are people talking about saying "...then i waste my money..."? Did you buy it to play or to other don't play? The price for this game is not even honest for the work Nabi team makes. Most of game developers sell you add-ons for their games with a same price as their first product. Nabi team offers you to pay just once and get a full access for all their labour, all their efforts and headakes about how to make it better. Can you say that they work on Toribash less than on some "high-class" game?
They are very kind in their price-policy, so shame on persons, who want rewards for buying the game.

Maybe, developers think, that making Toribash free will attract bigger audience and some extra payments for some different benefits will increase their financial well-being. And from the one side it's good, so they can work on their favorite game and less thinking about how to earn money for food.
But from the other side, who knows if people, who didn't want to pay for Toribash will pay for it's benefits.
And if it will work, won't the situation with Toribash will be like with most free online MMORPG or some other games where often people's honest play has no value?

The getting of key, i think, is one of the most exciting moments through all the time of playing, especially now with such amount of competitions and events. Do you remember what were you feeling during some key competition, how strong your emotions were? And then reading congratulations on forums.

Think about forums too. One of the main reasons Toribash is the only game in my "Games" folder is it's comunity. I've never seen so strong and so friendly one. Guess it started from developers with their considerate attitude to players.
I don't think, that making Toribash free will strong increase the number of young "N0oB' Pwnzor numba(put any number from 1 to infinite)" on forums, couse not the easiest gameplay takes away their wish to play and all the more to go on forums. But if it will happen, think about moderators. Cevius's ban laser won't get enough power.

Currently, I think it's already gratis enough. The unregs can do multiplayer, play with regs, post on forums. The only things they do not get are ranks, belts, joints, heads, and other vanity. Maybe the reg key should be cheaper, but I think part of the reason the community is so nice is that regs take the game seriously, because they paid something for it.

But in the end, what really matters is whether the project can get more money out of dropping the regkey system (and focusing on changing tcs, merchandising etc.). I do not care if people get miffed because "oh I paid bucks for this stuff and now it's free, I feel stupid".

What matters is that Hampa and friends get more money and can continue to improve Toribash. And I totally do not know if dropping the regkey system would be a win or a lose there.

Oh, and if you make it gratis, it would be really, really great if you could also release the code under an OSI-approved license.

Basically, keep Toribash as it is.

Well, when I proposed unregged get 2.6, I thought just to leave it at that. They can be happy even without the bugfixes.

I think I understand now the motivation behind making Toribash a free game. Nabi makes money indirectly from Toribash now (buying credits, credit multipliers, and more if Toribash goes completely free).

I don't think 3.0 should be free, as I said before, but when I posted before, no other ideas were in my head. But as a member of the community, I think that such expansion through attraction would allow more revenue from people who want an.... unfair advantage (fortunately, it won't make them any better anyways, just look different). Its worked with such games as Silkroad, Goonzu, and Private RO servers. Only difference between them and this is this isn't an MMORPG.

Still, even with that said, it still seems unfair to those who've already paid. And maybe if someone could answer if we'd have to pay for new reg keys for 3.0 if it won't be free, that would be grand. I'm all for paying for it again if needs be.

I think qeg has the solution, maybe with the registered features, you can't upgrade the graphics, and you can only use the features of 2.6, or maybe even 2.5 (no lua). That is of course, if it does become free.
