Main difference for me is being able to plan what I say online before I say it. Real life conversation is far more fun for me though.

Since there aren't many lasting personal effects of being a total dick online, a lot of people do that, maybe releasing personal stress? Dunno, but I like to think that they are just troubled dudes irl. Maybe even nice dudes!

But yeah, my persona is just a more exaggerated me. Not as crude as irl in some situations though, like in those on-the-moment situations where you say something and immediately regret it. At least online, you have a second to read over what you say before you post or comment.

Well, that depends where you are being a dick. Being a dick on Facebook, Myspace or Twitter can cause real life problems. I've heard of at least 5 cases in the past 6 months of people losing their jobs or getting bashed after saying shit on Twitter and Facebook. I think in terms of forum use, most dicks can get away with it as you say but otherwise they can get themselves into trouble.

Oddly enough, I'm 30x less serious in real life (inb4internet is serious business). I use nearly the same vocabulary but with heavy sarcasm most of the time. If you talk to me while I'm playing with real life friends on xbox you'll see what I mean.
I am a lot more reserved when I act around people I'm not well acquainted with, and I suppose I am kinder in meatspace.

This is a good topic. My internet persona is very similar to IRL personality I think. My physique resembles that of a second-hand rake and I've had a fair few problems in life and I think that really does reflect over the internet. For example, I was brought up with the whole 'only do to others what you wouldn't mind them doing to you' concept.

I dunno if many of you know, but I don't think I've ever outright insulted someone straight to their face on toribash (whether it be forum, irc or ingame) and I'm generally a bit of a pacifist when sorting out bans and stuff. I think this is the same because of how I am both physically and mentally irl. I'm a pretty huge coward IRL because if I do go around saying shit I'll probably get broken, this means that over the net I am not comfortable insulting people and it makes me feel bad. Oh no that was long.

I'm pretty much the same to be honest because I don't see the point of changing my own personality for the sole reason of looking cooler or gaining status quo.

After reading this, I have also realised that my friends on MSN are a lot more comfortable with talking. The internet's a funny thing.
